The Canton of Zurich lowered its cantonal tax rate to 95% of the simple state tax for the years 2026 and 2027 (previously 98%). On top of this comes the municipal tax rate, which can vary considerably within a single canton.

How is the tax calculated?

Your effective tax is: simple tax × (cantonal rate + municipal rate + church rate) ÷ 100. Zurich example: with a simple tax of CHF 5,000, a cantonal rate of 95%, a municipal rate of 119% and a church rate of 10%, the total tax amounts to CHF 11,200.
